Love’s Enemy

Perhaps fear is the true enemy of love.

Fear of pain, rejection, being inadequate, or losing someone/something. It’s what holds us back from fully embracing love that often presents itself to us in ways we can’t understand.

Love comes with a risk. It is coupled with all these fears, in one degree or another. Maybe if one lets go of fear, it is their first step to loving truly, and a first handreach to feel being truly loved.

May we choose love over fear, all the time. It’s all worth it.

“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭4:18‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Ocean

My eyes are an ocean
When lids are closed;
Lashes are drawn lines
That touch the coast.

Undirected, waves carry me
I float in a tumultuous sea;
Underwater, my soul still breathes
In Atlantis, where my heart lives.

Water and sky, forever bound
Sands and stars, scattered around;
Rest, for when darkness comes
Past the shore, a river runs.

Space

it’s that sudden burst of glory
a place to stir
a start and end
an empty, ignorant mess
incompleteness

disasters die on the in-betweens
words do
worlds too
so do all waking moments
and dreams that came true

sometimes
it’s that quick blinking
the pauses
u-turns of hesitation
little noises
filling the whole

hiatus
a break in bonds
a time to cover flaws
time to heal
a nagging ache
a cramp

the wait
a place for hope
to reminisce
an art piece
that won’t make sense
until the new ones come
and everything else is gone

Zero

I hear but echoes
In a dark place,
Faint and distant
Like a silent wail;
Walls surround me,
I’m unchained
But in circles
I run
And there’s nothing else,
Just that little sound,
A tiny cluster
In a sullen night sky,
A triad singing
Warm melodies
To stop the tremors
Lulling me to sleep
In this pseudo-silence,
I hear nothing
I see nothing
But alas, I say,
In this wretched world,
Nothing matters
Nothing remains
And nothing goes a long way.

Coffee

Feather trailing down the throat
Neck—either warm or cold
Feel the slightest touch and smile
Let it dance here, play the lyre
Bliss
Sniff the romance in the air
Dark, ground gems dissolving
The scent—ever mesmerizing
I’ve been taken up to where?
Mist
The enchantment reached my eyes
Drips of scenes I have watched
Leaving filtered confusion out
Waiting for the final drops of love
Wish
Stronger now, the drumbeats loud
Acoustics playing classic, hardcore
Stained cup, only dregs left out
Fill the head, mind repeats, ‘No more.’
Peace

Transition

Where now I seek
An empty window seat
To see some beauty
Before I fall asleep

Where clouds move past
To throw some shade
Blue skies, my heart’s awake
I’m moving to a quiet state

Where I fly into a foreign land
Over and over, a tear falls down
Sway, sway, my eyes will see
My dreams have flown away from me.

Pieces

Papers stacked
Each page a burden
A thin line,
A finite number
Little sounds
Flicking nuisance
Each flip, each fold
Each marked reminder

White and clean
Not gone forever
Blank and cold
And lost in wonder
Smudged and dotted
Rolled and bruised
Cut, confused
Crumpled, thrown
Hid, unknown.

Tap, tap, tap
The drops of ink;
Whoosh, swoosh
The gust of wind.
One page down,
The storm is gone.
Lift, write down
Erase, then done!

How many times
Till fade the sounds,
Till songs be sung?
How many lines
Have come and gone?
How many
Till words have rhymed?

Page break
Blank
Margin, space
Bleed the words
Then come what may
Because, because
No pain, no shame
And still, no gain
Sigh…
But something’s left
The thoughts are heard
The whisper’s loud
Enough to bear
But throbbing heart’s
Still beating there

In pieces…
Ellipsis
Enough
Full stop.
